Andrea McMillan moderated the Evidence Law Update seminar at the Palm Beach County Courthouse with 3 Palm Beach County judges serving as panelists. Approximately 35 members of the Palm Beach County Bar Association attended the seminar, which featured a great interactive discussion about evidentiary issues highlighted in an outline prepared by Ms. McMillan.

ANDREA MCMILLAN REVIEWS ESSAYS AS A LAWYER FOR LITERACY VOLUNTEER
Andrea McMillan is a Lawyer for Literacy: she strongly believes that all adults and children in Palm Beach County—and for that matter, everywhere— should be literate. In promotion of that goal, Andrea, along with other lawyers from the Palm Beach County Bar Association, recently volunteered to review and select outstanding essays written by adult learners of English enrolled in literacy classes through the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County. Many of those who wrote outstanding essays later read them at the swing Coalition’s Adult Essay Reception.
On February 26, 2016 Clinics Can Help (CCH), the West Palm Beach-based nonprofit that provides medical equipment and supplies to children and adults in need, provided more than 300 new Pack ‘n Play cribs to families with infants, newborns or parents-to-be to promote safe sleeping environments. Families and representatives from seven local nonprofits, including El Sol, Caridad Center, Healthy Steps, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, Families First, The Lord’s Place and Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, gathered at CCH’s new office and warehouse at 2560 Westgate Ave. in West Palm Beach, to receive the new cribs. The agencies, funded by the United Way of Palm Beach County, will provide families receiving cribs with education on how to put their newborns and infants to bed safely. CCH also provides medical supplies and equipment, such as hospital beds, motorized wheelchairs, nebulizers, and walkers, to Palm Beach County residents, at little or no cost to the recipient. During her time of caregiving for 3 ill family members, CCH provided Andrea McMillan with medical equipment for her loved ones. Knowing firsthand the great work CCH does, Andrea gladly accepted when she was asked to join CCH’s Board of Directors, on which she now serves.
Andrea McMillan joined more than 400 business leaders, legal professionals and elected officials at The Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County’s 6th annual Raise the Bar reception on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. The event raised more than $60,000 to support programs promoting Palm Beach County women and girls in leadership positions, including a professional development series; Women on the Run, a program training women to run for office; and a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program for girls.
ANDREA MCMILLAN APPOINTED TO FLORIDA BAR CODE & RULES OF EVIDENCE COMMITTEE
Andrea McMillan was recently appointed to The Florida Bar Code & Rules of Evidence Committee. She was appointed by Ramon A. Abadin, President-Elect of The Florida Bar. The committee’s primarily focuses on proposed legislation pertaining to the Florida Evidence Code, which is established by the Florida legislature and applied by Florida trial court judges. Ms. McMillan, a 25-year member of The Florida Bar, will serve a three-year term on the committee, commencing in July, 2015.

On May 21, 2015, Andrea McMillan joined a group of lawyers and retired judges in giving presentations to students at a Palm Beach County Adult Education Center on law as a career path, and on furthering one’s education as a way of realizing dreams.
PASSOVER SEDER BRINGS TOGETHER TWO COMMUNITIES
On March 31, 2015, the F. Malcolm Cunningham, Sr. Bar Association (FMCBA) and American Jewish Committee (AJC) hosted the 4th annual Joint Passover Seder to celebrate Unity, Human Rights and Freedom. The Seder which was led by Rabbi Cookie Lea Olshein of Temple Israel in West Palm Beach, Rev. Robert Hendley III, M.D., Greater Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Riviera Beach, and Cantor Alicia Stillman of Temple Judea, in Palm Beach Gardens celebrated the common bond and experiences of the Jewish and African American communities. Participants, including the children in attendance, read sections of the joint Haggadah, which is the text recited at the Seder on the first two nights of the Jewish Passover. The Seder was educational, and a warm coming together of people. Attorney McMillan delivered the presentation through the Florida Lawyers in Libraries program, in honor of National Pro Bono week, which celebrates lawyers serving the poor and disadvantaged through volunteer service.
ATTORNEY ANDREA MCMILLAN REAPPOINTED TO JUDICIAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE OF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION
We are proud to announce that Andrea McMillan has been reappointed to the Judicial Relations Committee of the Palm Beach County Bar Association. The Judicial Relations Committee is a committee of lawyers that serves as a liaison between the lawyers and state judges in Palm Beach County. The work of this committee includes planning and hosting the annual Bench Bar Conference, which is attended by many Palm Beach County judges and lawyers, in an effort to improve the orderly and efficient administration of justice. As a member of this committee, Andrea McMillan regularly attends and participates in a Judicial Lunch seminar series, wherein committee members and judges candidly discuss issues relating to the practice of law in front of Palm Beach County judges. Judicial Relations Committee members also conduct in person meetings with judges, in an effort to improve the orderly and efficient administration of justice. The committee also conducts biannual judicial evaluations that are administered by the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

Attorney Andrea McMillan was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of Clinics Can Help, a West Palm Beach-based non-profit organization that distributes medical equipment and supplies to people and organizations who need it, for little or no cost. Clinics Can Help provides a wide range of costly equipment that is integral in helping patients heal, rehabilitate and recover from traumatic and chronic conditions. The equipment and supplies include traditional and motorized wheelchairs for adults and children; home hospital beds; medical air mattresses; walkers; nebulizers; shower chairs; bedside commodes; incontinent briefs; and wound care supplies. The Fourth District Court of Appeal includes 12 judges who have jurisdiction over appealed cases that arise from Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, or Okeechobee counties. From 1990-1992 Andrea McMillan worked as a law clerk at the Fourth District Court of Appeal, essentially as an academic lawyer assisting the judges in deciding the outcomes of cases.

Andrea McMillan is dedicated to improving the community and this can be demonstrated by how she invests her time and resources in various local community groups. She was recently appointed to the Alumni Relations and Marketing and Public Relations committees of Leadership Palm Beach County. Founded in 1984, Leadership Palm Beach County, Inc., is an educational 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to foster awareness of community issues and promote efficient communication and cooperative relationships between existing and emerging community leaders. Andrea McMillan is a graduate of the Leadership Palm Beach County Class of 1998. She previously served as General Counsel for Leadership Palm Beach County and was a member of its Board of Governors.
